We are not only at the beginning of a very vast project. We intend in the near future to develop several other aspects of this marvelous raw material offered to us. One of the most important points will be that of working entirely by hand with wool, for this we are in partnership at this very moment with a community of women weavers of the Sacred Valley. It is a rather special community that we have chosen, we are going to tell you some of the most important aspects.
The project of this community began in the 70s when a family became interested in the techniques of natural colors lost as the boom in industrial and chemical techniques. To do this, a long journey that began through the Andes to meet forgotten villages where ancestral techniques persisted. Hard work at a time when Peru was not as safe as it is today and old customs still persist: the natives of these villages were afraid that by passing on their know they would lose part of their soul. After long parleys and negotiations with the chef(and)s de these communities and almost 30 years of work, many of these natural colors and weaving techniques were found.
These knowledge thus found were then compiled and taught to the women of the village of Chinchero in the Sacred Valley. Apart from the perpetuation of a forgotten millennial know-how, the goal was just as much to emancipate women. By giving them a social utility outside of household chores, a job and an income, they have since gained relative independence.
